What is the difference between ferrous and non-ferrous metal scrap?
Ferrous metals contain iron as their primary component — they are generally magnetic, strong, and include mild steel, cast iron, HMS, structural steel, and GI material. Non-ferrous metals contain no iron — they include copper, aluminium, brass, stainless steel, lead, zinc, nickel, and bronze. Non-ferrous scrap typically carries a significantly higher per-kg market value than ferrous scrap because of the scarcity and industrial demand for these materials. Keeping the two categories separated before sale is essential to realising the full value of your non-ferrous streams.
Which types of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap do you buy?
A S Traders purchases all grades of ferrous scrap — MS scrap, HMS Grade 1 and Grade 2, cast iron, structural steel, GI pipe and sheet, TMT bar scrap, machinery scrap, fabrication offcuts, and mixed iron. For non-ferrous, we buy all grades of copper (bare bright, No. 1, No. 2, insulated wire), aluminium (extrusion, cast, sheet, die-cast), brass (yellow, red, turnings, castings), stainless steel (SS 304, SS 316, SS 202), lead, zinc, bronze, nickel alloy, and monel scrap from industrial sources anywhere in India.
Why is segregating ferrous and non-ferrous scrap so important before selling?
When mixed scrap is presented as a single lot, the buyer must price the entire lot at the lowest-value component grade within the mix to account for the cost of separating it. This means your copper or aluminium components are effectively valued as steel scrap. Even basic separation — keeping copper wire away from steel offcuts, and aluminium separate from iron — ensures each material is independently assessed and priced at its correct market grade. The financial improvement from sorting can be substantial, particularly where non-ferrous metals form a significant part of your total scrap volume.
Which non-ferrous metal scrap has the highest value in India?
Copper scrap consistently commands the highest per-kg recovery value among commonly traded non-ferrous metals in India. Bare bright copper wire (stripped of insulation) commands the highest grade within copper. Aluminium and brass scrap also carry strong market values. Nickel alloy and monel scrap from specialist industrial applications attract premium pricing. The exact rate for any grade depends on current market conditions — contact us for an up-to-date indication based on your specific material.
Do you offer free on-site pickup for ferrous and non-ferrous metal scrap?
Yes. We provide free on-site pickup for all ferrous and non-ferrous metal scrap. Our team visits your factory, workshop, warehouse, demolition site, or facility. We handle all grading assessment, weighing, loading, and transportation at no additional cost. The only condition is that your lot meets the minimum practical quantity for a free collection visit in your area — contact us and we will confirm this immediately based on your material type and location.
How is metal scrap weighed and how do you ensure there are no disputes?
All weighing is done at your site using calibrated digital scales, in your presence, so you can observe every reading directly. A printed weight receipt is issued at the end of the collection documenting the material categories, grades, weights, and total. There are no post-collection adjustments to agreed weights. This transparent, witnessed weighing process is the foundation of every transaction A S Traders undertakes.
How and when is payment made for metal scrap?
Payment is made immediately after weighing and price confirmation at your site — the same day, with no waiting period. We accommodate payment by cash, UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), or direct bank transfer via NEFT or IMPS. Industrial clients with recurring scrap arrangements can also request agreed-cycle bank settlements for easier accounts management.
How quickly can you collect metal scrap after I contact you?
For standard lots of ferrous or non-ferrous metal scrap, we typically arrange same-day or next-day on-site collection. For large-scale factory clearances, plant decommissioning, or demolition scrap projects involving complex logistics, we conduct a prior site assessment to plan the collection properly and execute on a confirmed date agreed with you.
